3 Descriptive Statistics Method for Data Presentation

Discussion of basic knowledge of statistics as has been found in previous articles, descriptive statistics are branches of statistics relating to the procedures used to explain the characteristics of data in general. In descriptive statistics, data presentations include: data collection, data management, and calculation of statistical values in order to quickly obtain an overview of the data.
Various procedures commonly used to explain data characteristics will be discussed in this article. Basically these procedures are the basic techniques of descriptive statistics used to classify, simplify, and present in an easily understood form. The ease of understanding data allows users to be able to obtain more information about the characteristics of the data than in the condition of the raw data.
Descriptive statistics is a method relating to the collection and presentation of data so as to provide useful information.
In general, there are three methods commonly used to explain the characteristics of a data set, namely;
  1. Table: presentation of data into a table is intended to group observational values into several groups, each of which has the same characteristics. The form of a table that is often used is the frequency table.
  2. Graphs or Diagrams: the presentation of data in the form of graphs or diagrams is intended to visualize the data as a whole by highlighting certain characteristics of the data. Some types of charts or diagrams that are commonly used are histograms, bar and leaf charts, bar charts, pie charts and box diagrams.
  3. Sample statistics: sample statistics are used to explain the size of concentration and the distribution of observational values from a data set. Centering measures commonly used are average, median and mode values. While the size of the distribution that is commonly used is the range, standard deviation and variance.
